What a 100 KB image actually is

100 KB is roomy for a photograph and very comfortable for a scanned document, a screenshot or a signature. At this size JPEG barely has to try, so the result usually looks the same as the original.

It is also the point where PNG becomes realistic for graphics and logos with flat colour, because a palette-reduced PNG at 100 KB is still sharp. Photographs should stay in JPG or WebP.

When you need an image under 100 KB

Quality at 100 KB — what to expect

Very good for photographs and effectively lossless-looking for graphics and scans. If a photo comes back soft at 100 KB, the source was unusually large — resize it closer to its display size first.

If it does not look right, the fastest fix is not more compression — it is cropping closer to the subject before compressing, so the pixels you keep are the ones that matter.

Questions

How do I compress an image to 100 KB?

Drop your image into the box above, make sure the target says 100 KB, and the tool compresses it on the spot. Download the result — it will be 100 KB or smaller.

Is there a limit on how many images I can compress?

No. There is no daily cap, no file-count limit and no signup. The compression runs in your browser, so there is no server quota to run out of.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is decoded, resized and re-encoded entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why the tool works offline once the page has loaded.

Will compressing to 100 KB ruin the quality?

Very good for photographs and effectively lossless-looking for graphics and scans. If a photo comes back soft at 100 KB, the source was unusually large — resize it closer to its display size first.

What if my image is already smaller than 100 KB?

Then the tool leaves it alone rather than re-encoding it and losing quality for no reason. Re-encoding an already-small image only makes it worse.
